If I am not in-network with your insurance, I can provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement. You can also use your FSA or HSA funds for our services.
Yes! I am in-network with most plans through the following insurance companies: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Cigna, United Healthcare, Molina (marketplace plan), and Sana. Please note that I’m not in-network with any Medicare or Medicaid plans.
Most insurance plans have coverage for our nutrition therapy sessions and many will even cover 100% of visits. That being said, every insurance plan is different. You can use this script to check your insurance benefits to see how your specific plan may cover our sessions together. Let me know if you need any assistance with this.
I understand the stress that comes with getting necessary healthcare when funds are limited. Because of this, I have partnered with Project HEAL to be able to offer a limited number of sliding scale spots for my clients who need financial assistance. You can learn more about Project HEAL and apply for support here.
Our first session will primarily be focused on assessing where you’re at and serves as the start of our work together. We will review your medical and nutrition history, current relationship with food and body, your lifestyle, food intake, nutrition status, and long-term goals together. This initial assessment often takes up the entire first session and can continue into follow-up sessions depending on how much there is to cover. Nutrition therapy is similar to other forms of counseling in that we will explore behaviors, feelings, and patterns to make small changes until we reach your goals.
This depends on the purpose of our meetings, your goals, your readiness to change, what support systems you have in place, and many other factors. Although everyone is different, some clients may feel confident in their journeys after a few sessions while others can take years. Changing habits that are often life-long and deeply rooted can take time. We will likely work slowly to build long-lasting positive changes. Be patient.
Most newer clients and those who need enhanced support meet with me weekly. Once our work has been established, we can space out sessions to every 2 weeks and can eventually move to monthly support when ready. That being said, some clients may need to meet less frequently due to financial or time constraints which is ok as long as it matches with the level of support that you need.
No! At least not in the way that you may be thinking. We will work together to find individualized eating strategies that work best for you. If you require renourishment or nutrition stabilization, we may discuss eating guidelines to ensure you’re eating enough (I may refer to this as your meal plan).
I’m so sorry that you’ve had negative experiences while seeking help for your health and/or nutrition. As a Registered Dietitian I stand for evidence based care rooted in compassion. Because of this, I follow the HAES® framework and incorporate an anti-diet approach to eating called Intuitive Eating. Additionally, I’ve had continuing education and supervision in trauma informed care to ensure that I’m doing my best to prevent harm. Although I can’t promise that our sessions will be different, I sure hope they will be!
